About

Glasgow-born Chris started his independent publishing imprint Brickley Books in 2020, spurred by the publication of his successful and critically-lauded photobook 16 YEARS Gigs in Scotland 1974-1990. A network of stockists in Scotland and London, including Street Level Photoworks and IDEAnow, ensured it reached a wide audience. This was followed up with Saints & Sinners: Punk and After in June 2022, which garnered widespread praise and is rapidly selling out. His third publication was The Inner Circle, Graham Gavin’s Glasgow in the 90s. The latest book is Post Punk City which focuses on photographer Martin McClenaghan who turns the lens on his native city 1979-1990.

Chris is always on the lookout for collaborators and unpublished photography/ photographers for future projects.

Chris worked in the Fine Art industry for 25 years, and is an acknowledged expert on 19th and 20th century Scottish and British Art. He completed a PhD on The Glasgow Boys in 1996.

He lives in Edinburgh.
